At Animate Cafe, the collaboration, branch and date determine whether you need a reservation. A lottery application is not a confirmed table. A free-entry announcement means no advance reservation under that arrangement; it does not mean the food is free.
This guide covers Animate Cafe's own reservation system. Other anime cafes use different operators and booking rules, even when they feature the same series.
Find the exact collaboration first
Start at Animate Cafe's current official site, choose the series, and check the participating branch and dates. An old search result can describe a collaboration that has already finished, while a current event may have more than one venue.
On that event's admission instructions, look for:

The operator's reservation guide distinguishes these routes. For a lottery, applying first does not improve your chance. For an available seat, a successful booking can confirm immediately. Those are different buttons doing different jobs.
Register while you still have time to fix a problem
The current guide offers CLUB animate or LINE authentication, followed by email verification and customer details. Set up access before the lottery deadline, not while a final minute is counting down.
Overseas account registration is a real sticking point: a Harmony Lounge visitor asked how to create the account from abroad. Avoid old advice that treats every Animate login flow as identical. CLUB animate's SMS guidance describes an overseas-number route for supported regions, but that does not establish support for every country or complete the cafe booking for you.
If your number or account cannot proceed, use the cafe's official contact route and describe the exact screen, country and error. Do not fill in a random Japanese number. You still need to be able to receive the confirmation and meet the booking's identity requirements.
After applying, look for the result
Check the email and the reservation account on the announced results date. Keep the distinction between an application-history entry and a confirmed reservation. If unsuccessful, look for 空席予約 when the operator releases available seats; there may be none at the time you check.
When a booking is confirmed, save the branch, time, party size and reservation number together. The person who made the reservation must attend; companions cannot simply use it without them. Bring the required official ID showing that person's full name. A passport is among the documents listed by the operator.
A seat and a particular piece of merchandise are different plans
If your main reason for going is an acrylic stand, coaster or other item, check the collaboration's sales and bonus conditions before reserving. A table confirmation does not tell you which product will still be available or whether a bonus is random. Animate Cafe's FAQ has separate sections for merchandise availability, purchase limits and admission.
Keep a normal meal option nearby if the booking fails. You can still spend that afternoon shopping for anime goods without pretending the cafe reservation succeeded.
If you can no longer attend, cancel through your reservation account. The current booking guide asks for cancellation at least 15 minutes before the entry time; doing it sooner gives you less to remember while travelling.
